To Use Outline View, from the View tab, click Outline. When you wish to return to the previous view, click the button that says Close Outline View.
To Demote Items, while in Outline View, select the item you wish to demote and click Demote (to Body Text.)
To Promote Items, while in Outline View, select the item you wish to promote and click Promote (to Heading 1.)
To Navigate Long Documents, (Online Version) from the View tab, click Navigation and use the Search function to help you navigate your document.
To Add a Bookmark, select the text you wish to bookmark and from the Insert tab, click Links then Bookmark. Once you have named your bookmark, click Add.
To Insert a Section Break, (Desktop Version) place your cursor where you would like your section to begin. From the Layout tab, click Breaks and select your desired type of section break.
To Insert a Link, select the text you want to use as a link. Then from the Insert tab, click the Links drop-down and the Links button. Choose what type of link you want to create and where you wish to link your text to. When satisfied, click OK.
To Create Footnotes and Endnotes, select the text you wish the footnote or endnote to refer to. From the References tab, click Insert Footnote or Endnote and enter your text.
To Insert a Table of Contents, place your cursor where on the document you wish to insert a table of contents. From the References tab, click Table of Contents and select your desired style.
To Insert an Index Entry, Select the text you wish the index entry to refer to. From the References tab, click the Mark Entry button. Once you have altered the index entries to your desired outcome, click Mark or Mark All and Close.
To Insert an Index, place your cursor where on your document you wish to insert an index. From the References tab, click Insert Index. Once you have configured the options to your desired outcome, click OK.
To Insert a Bibliography, from the References tab, click Bibliography and select your desired style.
