Screenshots can be very handy; a quick screen grab can accurately present a visual of your current experience and can be useful to share any problems you are facing – especially if they’re inconsistent.

While you’re in Remote Desktop, the most efficient way of sharing a Screenshot is by searching “snip” in the search bar.

Find the app called Snip and Sketch.

When the app is open, there should be a “New” button at the top left-hand corner. You can either click the button to take an immediate screenshot, or you can click the drop-down button to the right of then “New” button to select taking the screen shot in three seconds or ten seconds instead.

When the app is ready to take a screenshot, a small window will appear centered at the top of your screen. The window will display four icons; from left to right, there will be a single rectangle with a plus sign at the bottom right, a squished circle with a plus sign at the bottom right, two stacked rectangles with a plus sign at the bottom right, and finally, a single rectangle with the inner corners framed.

The first symbol, the single rectangle with the plus sign makes it so a screenshot will be taken after you use your mouse to determine a square shaped area on your computer you wish to capture. To use this method, click your mouse on what you want to be the furthest corner of the area you wish to capture. Keep your finger down on where you clicked and drag the mouse to the opposite corner diagonally from where you began. You will see as you drag, the program will create a square around the image you wish to capture. When you have determined the area you wish to capture, let go of the mouse with your finger.

The next symbol, the caved in circle with the plus sign works very similarly to the first symbol, except for instead of the app creating a square out of the area you select, you have complete control over the shape of the screenshot. Using this choice, when you click and drag the mouse, it is up to you to complete the circumference of the area you wish to capture.  When you have chosen your desired image and completed the perimeter, simply let go of your mouse with your finger.

The third symbol will allow you to take an image of one open window on your computer. When you move your mouse across your screen, you will find that certain areas will be greyed out while other areas are in full color. The areas in color represent what you would capture in your screenshot. Once you have selected which part of your screen you would like to capture, all you must do is click once on your mouse and it will capture the highlighted area on your screen.

Finally, the last icon, the framed single rectangle is used to take a screen grab of your display in its entirety. This icon only needs one click, right on the icon itself, and it will grab an image of your entire screen.

Once you have taken your screenshot, regardless of whichever method you chose, the app will open back up and display the image you have just captured.  Then, you can choose to make small edits by using the tools displayed at the top. Use the pens to highlight or circle any areas in your screenshot you would like to draw attention to, the eraser (to the right of the pens) to erase any edits you’re unhappy with, or the crop button (far right) to tighten the image as you need. (Tools as displayed below.)

You can also use the magnifying glass to zoom in on your screenshot if you need a closer look. (As displayed below.) The magnifying glass in the app is found at the top right-hand corner.

Finally, to save the screenshot. Because nothing should ever be saved onto your desktop in Remote Desktop, you shouldn’t use the save feature in this app. Instead, next to the save button, you will see a button to copy your image. The icon looks like two pieces of paper stacked on top of one another, as displayed below. (Symbol in the middle.) When you have your image copied, you can paste it wherever you may need it to be. For example, if it’s something you intend to keep, you can paste it into a Word document online and save it onto your OneDrive. If it’s something you need to share, you can paste it directly into an e-mail or a ticket reply on Freshservice.

Final notes: there is a keyboard shortcut you can use to take a screenshot: [Windows]+[Shift]+[S] however, it may not open the app or work properly inside Remote Desktop.
